Skin & Laser
Laser treatments for every Fitzpatrick type.
The best laser treatment in Raleigh is not a single device running one setting on every patient. It is the right wavelength at the right fluence for your Fitzpatrick skin type and your specific concern. At La Miel Aesthetics, we deliberately carry multiple laser platforms because Fitzpatrick I skin and Fitzpatrick VI skin cannot be safely treated on the same device.
- All Fitzpatrick skin types
- Nd:YAG for skin of color
- Physician-supervised
- Bilingual care
What this is
What lasers can do
Different laser wavelengths target different structures in the skin. That is why "getting a laser" means almost nothing without specifying which one and for what.
Pigment-targeting lasers break up unwanted pigment (sun spots, age spots, some post-acne marks) so your body clears it. Vascular lasers close down unwanted blood vessels (spider veins, rosacea redness, angiomas). Hair removal lasers target follicle pigment to achieve permanent hair reduction. Resurfacing lasers create controlled thermal injury to smooth texture, reduce scarring, and stimulate collagen rebuilding. Ablative lasers remove the outer skin layer entirely for dramatic resurfacing (higher downtime, higher risk for darker skin).

Our platforms and why they matter
We carry laser platforms specifically chosen for the range of Fitzpatrick skin types we see. Exact device names are reviewed during consultation.
Nd:YAG 1064 nm
The gold standard for darker skin tones. Bypasses surface melanin, targets deeper structures. Safe for Fitzpatrick IV-VI for hair removal, vascular work, and some pigmentation.
Suited for: Fitzpatrick IV-VI skin, hair removal, vascular concerns, pigment.
Fractional non-ablative
Controlled resurfacing with shorter downtime. Usable on most skin tones with care. Drives collagen rebuilding without removing the outer skin layer.
Suited for: Texture, fine lines, mild scarring, most Fitzpatrick types.
Diode and alexandrite
For lighter skin types where these wavelengths work efficiently and safely. Often used for hair removal on Fitzpatrick I-III patients.
Suited for: Fitzpatrick I-III hair removal, certain pigment work.
Who this is for
What we treat with lasers
- Sun damage and age spots
- Uneven skin tone
- Post-acne scarring
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Facial redness and rosacea
- Spider veins
- Unwanted hair (face and body)
- Enlarged pores
- Skin texture and quality
What we deliberately do not push for darker skin: broad-spectrum IPL (generally not recommended for Fitzpatrick IV-VI), aggressive Q-switched lasers at high fluences, and ablative CO2 at default settings.
If you have been turned away elsewhere or told you are not a candidate for laser, book a consultation here. That often means the other practice does not have a platform suited to your skin. It does not mean you cannot be treated safely.

A note on pricing
Laser pricing varies by treatment area, platform, and series length. Hair removal is typically packaged as a series of 6 to 8 sessions. Resurfacing and pigment work are priced per session. Consultations include a specific quote and a financing plan when needed.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Nd:YAG at 1064 nm is the primary safe laser for Fitzpatrick IV through VI skin, used for hair removal, certain vascular concerns, and select pigmentation work, while IPL and aggressive ablative lasers are generally not recommended for darker skin. Nd:YAG (1064 nm) is the primary safe laser for Fitzpatrick IV through VI skin, used for hair removal, certain vascular concerns, and select pigmentation work. Fractional non-ablative lasers can be used with caution. IPL, ablative CO2, and aggressive Q-switched lasers at high fluences are generally not recommended for darker skin due to hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation risks.
