Why do cheeks lose volume?
With age, the fat pads of the mid-face thin and shift down, and the bone beneath them changes. The cheeks flatten, and the loss of support can deepen the lines around the nose and mouth and make the face look tired.
How we restore the cheeks
Hyaluronic acid filler such as Juvederm or Restylane is placed to rebuild structure where it was lost, often in small amounts at several points. Restoring the mid-face can lift the lower face too, which is why cheeks are often part of a facial balancing plan.
Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved if needed, which makes it a flexible place to start.
Your filler timeline
Typical for hyaluronic acid filler. How long it lasts depends on the product and the area.
Day 0
Treatment
15 to 60 minutes depending on the areas, with topical numbing first. You see the change right away.
Day 1 to 5
Swelling settles
Swelling for 1 to 5 days, longer in the lips, and bruising is possible. Avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol for 24 hours.
Week 2
Final look
Swelling is gone and the result has settled. This is the result to judge.
Months later
Plan your touch-up
