Botox and Neurotoxins

Lip Flip Before and After

A lip flip relaxes the muscle around the upper lip so it rolls out slightly, showing a little more lip without filler.

What is a lip flip?

The orbicularis oris is the ring of muscle around the mouth. When it tightens, it can tuck the upper lip in, so the lip looks thinner, especially when you smile.

A gummy smile is related: the muscles that lift the upper lip pull it high above the teeth, showing more gum than you would like.

How we treat the lip and smile

A few small points of neurotoxin along the upper lip relax the muscle so the lip rolls out slightly. For a gummy smile, the same approach is used on the muscles that lift the lip. Neither adds volume; for volume, lip filler is the option.

Your Botox timeline

Typical for Botox. Dysport works a little faster and Daxxify lasts longer; see the comparison below.

  1. Day 0

    Treatment

A few small injections. Avoid lying flat for 4 hours and skip strenuous exercise and facials for 24 hours.

  2. Day 4 to 7

    First softening

The treated muscles start to relax and the lines begin to soften.

  3. Week 2

    Full effect

The peak effect arrives. This is when we check in and adjust with a small top-up if needed.

  4. Months 3 to 4

    Time to retreat

Results last 3 to 4 months on average. Most patients maintain with 3 to 4 treatments per year.
